Reviews
"I admit being totally surprised with this album. At first I thought I was listening to carefully
constructed dark ambient of the type of Lustmord and Caul, but as the first track developed
toward the end it had already developed into danceably rhythmic. The same style continues throughout the
whole album, reminding me strongly of Dust Brothers’ excellent Fight Club soundtrack without
hardly any taste of copying.
Some of the tracks could perhaps have been ended a minute or two earlier. On the other hand, going on and
on moderately fits the style of this kind of lightish trance. With each new track there’s returning to
ambient or atmospheric sceneries and taking off from there towards rhythm or heavier drones. It’s not
about any kind of HC-techno. I’d classify this record clearly in the category of experimental music, to
the high-rate end of it. There’s still room for development, but as such all pieces are in their places
already. The only actual burden of this album is its certain recognizability, falling structurally in the
same category with works rendering ambient into danceable like Coph Nia’s delicious That Which
is Remade remix album. This is a disc which will surely be played numerous times on my DJ-gigs.
Faultlessly produced, at the same time danceable and marginal and easy to approach for new listener. Not
necessarily the most original whole, but not everybody needs to be. My warm recommendation, especially as
a soft landing to introduce new listeners to odder stuff. It’s truly great, that people feel up to making
this kind of stuff with skill. (Kuolleen Musiikin Yhdistys)
“The beginning promises dark ambient and doesn’t set out to be eardrum blocker with the usual layer-floating,
but light tribal rhythmics suck the listener deeper and deeper into the darkish drone-like mist. At times
one is moving in dark waters, while occasional oscillation of action is directed into beats, reminding the
debut by Esperanza. Listeners who let dark ambient to paint their bodies with its own weight may
consider Amenia Amanitas too experimental. However, those who keep the Venetian blinds more open,
may internalize this light-creating output more easily. Light, that isn’t focused like maglight, but like
matte ad light falls softly, cutting mind’s life into own peace. Sine Nomine is evolutionary and
somewhat photogenic, but at the same time so under Jan Hus’s citations.” (Inferno Magazine)
“The cover of Sine Nomine’s album depicts a hand holding a dusky photograph. The inner sleeve shows a
movie audience watching a man in wintery, gloomy forest.
It’s easy to imagine this record playing on the background of, say, the X-files or the dense atmospheres of
a horror movie. The distant harmonies, murmurs and fizzle of dark ambient sound mats get sometimes accompanied
by beat, gurgle of water and human sounds.
Sine Nomine fits well into Some Place Else’s stable, specializing in dark electronic music. There’s something
sinister happening in the dark forest.” (Aviisi)
