Welcome to our newly rebuilt website. We hope it’s more pleasant to visit and less cluttered than before.

Where’s the shop that used to be here? We decided to slim down the mailorder to bare essentials, meaning Some Place Else releases plus a handful of other titles featuring Some Place Else artists. We offer free shipping worldwide for the time being, use it to your advantage.

The remaining stock from the old shop is being sold via Discogs — be sure to check it out! The prices are super low and the goods are moving pretty fast.

One section still offline is the media archive full of photos, sounds, video and other documents dating back to the 1990′s. We’re working on it but it’ll take some time to get everything organised properly.

Last but not least, the confirmed forthcoming releases on Some Place Else:
Lost Weight : Immune to Jewels
Ovro : tba. new album

Igor Bardo is a Russian musician and sound artist. He is best known as the mastermind of Bardoseneticcube, which is one of the leading experimental/post-industrial groups from Russia. He describes his music as Surrealism:

“Pure psychic automatism by which it is intended to express, either verbally or in writing, the true function of thought. Thought dictated in the absence of all control exerted by reason, and outside all aesthetic or moral preoccupations.” (André Breton)

My Sweet Nightmare is Igor Bardo’s debut solo album, containing about one hour of first class psychedelic electronic listening music. The surrealist soundscapes will be instantly embraced by fans of Bardoseneticcube, yet the artist manages to conquer heaps of new ground at the same time. Free from the burden of expectation related to the fame of his main band, My Sweet Nightmare has mr. Bardo take us on an adventurous journey deep down into the rabbit hole. Themes such as religion, psychedelia, sleep paralysis etc. are explored with eerie atmospheres, bliss-inducing frequencies and cutting edge studio experiments.

Igor Bardo formed Bardoseneticcube in 1998. The group have released dozens of albums on various labels throughout the world, and their powerful audiovisual live performances have gathered fame in Russia, Europe and Scandinavia. Igor Bardo has also collaborated live and on record with numerous Russian experimental artists.

Reviews.

“…an appreciable collagist work of effected vocal samples, unnatural sci-fi sounds, field recordings, instrumental sketches, cryptic choirs or obscure mantras, reflections on history, metallic tumbles and water plops, explosions, jazzy breaks and emotionally powerful stage mutations, mixed together with a devilish taste for visionary humour, just sometimes buttoned inside an hallucinated bundle of esoterical references, ritual dim lights, crepuscolar sets so that the listening experience of this album could result in some good air-conditioned astral trip, which could dive your mind into the surrealist scene of a movie by Maya Deren or Jean Cocteau…” (Chain DLK)

“The compositions are an entity of elaborated, dark ambient and experimental cuts made with an impressive arsenal of sounds. Igor Bardo excels in the use of multiple sound sources and manipulations to reach a magisterial sound. It results in a mixture of experimental, dark ambient and industrial elements. But Bardo also moves on rather unexpected fields like the more jazzy-orientated “Expirience” or the more folk-like “The Smoke”. Igor Bardo claims to be influenced by themes such as religion, psychedelia, sleep paralysis ao. I’m always fascinated by the way those kinds of musicians transpose their influences into music.” (Side-Line)

“The album is well composed and most compositions have a mix of recognizable sounds of musical structures like jazzy drums, religions chants or militaristic marches. He combines lots of different elements of music and sounds. Some tracks have an ambient noise style. The mixing between highly electronic sounds and fresh field-recordings and natural sound is well chosen. Old recordings of folk songs are mixed with ongoing electronic soundwaves and he creates a new old world.
“The end of the end” is a track with the shouting voice of Adolf Hitler. He samples his terrifying voice who evokes to destroy all Jews in the great German Reich with bombastic beats and chords. The song becomes more and more abstract and personal. But for me this song has nothing to do with a sweet nightmare. The track grabs my by the throat and my stomach starts turning. Real physical music, no more, no less. Highly recommended and real surprise for experimental ears and people with a strong stomach.” (Vital Weekly)

“Kahdentoista raidan mittainen My Sweet Nightmare on nimensä mukainen tutkimusmatka ihanien painajaisten öiseen maailmaan, joka on jokaiselle meistä hyvin yksilöllinen paikka.
Öisiin painajaisiin hiipivät vuorollaan myös niin fasismi (The End of the End), kuin esimerkiksi uskonto (Religion).
My Sweet Nightmare kannattaakin pistää soittimeen vasta auringon laskettua, eikä näitä painajaisia tarvitse edes pelätä.” (Noise.fi)

Reviews

“Some wholesome stuff for misanthropist is coming from Finnish label Some Place Else, who decided to issue a collection of cheeky sketches of a mad sound tumbler, who’s going to delight both Tigerbeat-like stuff and psychotropic sonic stimulations close to 8-bit diggers’ soups with the habit of hooking that kind of musical jolts normally associated to notorious names such as the one of Venetian Snares. To be honest, Aprox, nome de plume of the young Finnish composer Julius Valve also known as MR:HC or just Human Chocolate, pierces the listener’s space by bringing his prick punch to a red hot on different furnaces. The ferocious introduction, a frenzied From Avanto With Love remix (!) of a track entitled Elbow Knock you’re going to hear later, acts (more properly than the original version) as the title suggests through a boiling caldron whereas electromechanical compressed samples, electronic convulsive hiccough (close to the one you can extract when recording the buzzes while short-circuiting the board of a drum machine!), precedes Tissues and Candles, a sort of morbid lullaby built on pitch adjusting of a carillon-like sequence, while the following track, Responsability, walks on the impassable path of industrial and breakcore, slightly alter its own course in the scratching industrial hip-hop in the following Skincrawler (featuring Pedigree, a young and very interesting band by Holden Laamann and Taavi Aavik, armouring the sound of this EP with a course provokative and appreciated tone who could remind the sound of bands such as Swamp Terrorists), letting appear on the surface the sound of many innovative beat-makers. After the banque of noisy jumps on 3-tone sequence of the above-mentioned Elbow Track (a sort of ideal sonic rendez-vous between Autechre, Ab ovo and Negativland I enjoyed a lot), wheres a sort of melody resurface in a more audible way than the initial remix, Julius proposes a plain lulling rockish track, Darkest Days, featuring Roy Boswell, Emily Boswell and a sampled hen, turned into chicken into the recording studio! As the cover artwork by Bon Jarno seems to suggest, it’s like Aprox puts a finger into your pavilion before licking it!” (Chain DLK)

“”Come on you fucking fag” and the beats and harsh noises starts as a fucked up DJ who is turning several albums simultaneously. The first track called “Elbow Knock” of the Bad Music EP of the Finnish APROX. starts as a smash in the face. Six tracks fill this 3″CDR and techno, distorted hip-hop, alternative guitarmusic and industrial noises. [...] The construction of the CD is well-chosen and the songs are composed during 2004-2008. The songs blend seamlessly into one another and take the listener into different worlds. The music is really creative and several elements of different kinds of popular music styles melt together in an electronical world. The title of the CD is meant as a provocation, cause the music is not bad at all and I hope in future we will hear more music of this Finnish musical disturber.” (Vital Weekly)
