Some Place Else is a record label and mail order devoted to various forms of experimental, esoteric, eccentric and electronic music and art. The label started already in 1994 under the name Demonosound. In 1997 we refocused our vision, changed the name to Some Place Else and invested more thought, love and money into the label.

Some Place Else is operated by a small but dedicated collective of artists. Our motivation is to provide a channel to realize the creative work of ourselves and those in our close psychological neighbourhood. Thus, Some Place Else is most of all an artist collective and a record label. All the other activities take place mostly to support and fund our creations.

In the period of 2004–2007 we organized gigs and events in Turku, Finland, primarily in our own shop & performance spaces, namely Living Room (2004–2005) and Ostium (2005–2007). Although the venues were small, as were the audiences, these events formed the defining moments for the Turku experimental music scene. Many local and international artists performed at our events. In 2007, Some Place Else celebrated its tenth year of activity — by leaving the city. We moved all our activities to a small village in the countryside, in search of fresh inspiration and more convenient workspace. This decision turned out some of the very best we have made; the focus has sharpened, the resources increased, the psychic noise exorcised, and the fruits of the creative work stranger and juicier than ever before.

Some Place Else has survived in the underground, though sometimes neglected and misunderstood even in our own psychological neighbourhood. We stand on solid ground, our antlers pointing high up to the distant stars. We have been here for a while, doing what we do and enjoying it all. We aim to stick around. We are in no hurry.

Manifesto

Some Place Else is something else.
We are things treading outside the well-trodden highways,
Instead choosing to take the shady crooked paths,
overgrown footways or underground tunnels.

Some Place Else is a melting pot.
We are not stuck to a particular genre,
Nor bound by preconceived ideas on what music should sound like.
We embrace any and all attempts on breaking set limits
in order to breed weird cross-over hybrid Bastards from
(seemingly) contradictory source elements.

At Some Place Else, there are no limits
except those you choose to impose on yourself.
To be truly free, those need to be banished as well.
By any means necessary.
By any means available.
By any means envisioned.
And by those means you wouldn’t have ever thought of.
This is Some Place Else, where
Change begets life begets change.
There is no freedom in stability, nor creativity, nor life.
Some Place Else breaks your mold.
Stability is nihil,
change is vigour.
