Furnace is an unlikely yet strangely natural union of no Xivic, renowned sculptor of dark electro-acoustic soundscapes, and Gelsomina, Finland’s most prolific harsh noise artist. The title track, also the main piece on the album, is a live collaboration recorded in late 2006, a grand opus of psychedelic noise with a peculiar ‘kraut’ flavour! In addition to this, both artists created exclusive tracks on their own to complete the album. In total, Furnace is a 44-minute blast of fire, brimstone and hazardous electric currents, and thus a fine completion of Some Place Else’s tenth year of activity.

The title track is a 25-minute collaboration, recorded live in 2006 in Turku, Finland, that finds them embracing the joy of krautrock and setting it on fire; bleating, bobbing sheets of electronic music and drone are buried in caustic waves of scrap-metal noise and distortion, coming across like a frightening audio hallucination akin to speakers tripping out on powerful psychedelic drugs. About halfway through the piece, the real noise assault begins in earnest, growing steadily out of control as the speakers begin to sound like they’re being mulched; then everything begins to cycle up into high-pitched wailing and dense, circling walls of sound and fury before closing out with shuddering waves of violence. … Stellar work from start to finish.” (The One True Dead Angel)

The guitar melody is subtle while the buzzing guitar drones grow stronger into a dark throbbing tarry blanket. The sound is metallic and the heat is intensifying as these granulizing drones will come over with an overwhelming scorching power like burning kerosine. “Containing three tracks, the album opens with a collaboration between the two projects: The track titled Furnace runs approx. 25 minutes and has much focus on guitar-based noise and expressive buzz-drones. Second track titled Everlasting Fire demonstrates the harsh style of Gelsomina in full throttle. “This is the way youth get to know Satan and hell” the description says on the cover-sleeve and yes! — This work sound like the symphony of hell — impressive. Equally to aforementioned track, the third and final track on the album, titled Greater Suffering, wasn’t made to make the listener feel comfortable during the listening process. Also belonging to the harsh expression, the track is stylishly more subdued and introvert compared to the expressively extrovert contribution by No Xivic. Towards the end the hostile noise drones are overtaken by atmospheric, almost musical drones ending up with a very beautiful finale to this particular track as well as to the album as a whole.” (Vital Weekly)
